Anti-Money Laundering Compliance
At Harrper Projects, we are committed to meeting our Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) obligations with transparency, professionalism and clear customer communication.
What is AML/CTF?
AML/CTF laws are designed to prevent criminals from using legitimate businesses and transactions, including real estate, to conceal illicit funds or support terrorism. Certain real estate services in Australia are regulated by AUSTRAC and businesses providing those services must comply with these legal obligations.
Why are we requesting this information?
When providing regulated services, Harrper Projects is required to comply with AML/CTF laws. As part of this, we may ask customers to provide information that helps us verify identity and assess whether a transaction presents any compliance risks. We aim to make this process as clear and straightforward as possible.
What is customer due diligence?
Customer Due Diligence (CDD) is the process of verifying a customer’s identity before providing a regulated service. Depending on the circumstances, this may also involve confirming who owns or controls a person or entity involved in the transaction and taking additional steps where higher-risk factors are identified.
What information may be requested?
Depending on the ownership structure and the nature of the transaction, Harrper Projects or an authorised AML provider may request:
- Your full name, date of birth, occupation and residential address
- Details from identification documents, such as a driver’s licence or passport
- Information about who owns or controls a company, trust or other legal entity
- Information about the nature and purpose of the transaction and where required, the source of funds or wealth
How is this information used?
We collect this information to comply with legal obligations, verify identity, assess risk and help ensure that transactions are legitimate. We may also retain certain records as required by law and, where required, meet reporting obligations to AUSTRAC.
How do we handle personal information?
Harrper Projects will only collect personal information that is reasonably necessary to meet AML/CTF and related legal obligations. We handle personal information in accordance with applicable privacy requirements. Please refer to the Harrper Projects Privacy Policy for more information.
What if the information is not provided?
If the required information is not provided, we may not be able to provide the regulated service or continue with the transaction until customer due diligence has been completed.
